Mummenschanz

Last month at the Newcomers event, I won tickets to see Mummenschanz. For some reason, I kept thinking it was going to be a mime show. You know, the white face painted guys with exaggerated expressions that are struggling to get out of the glass box, 'running' against the wind, trying to pull a heavy object...mime show stuff. I think the only similarities between Mummenschanz and a mime show was that they were both silent. Here's a quick 30 second clip on youtube of Mummenschanz.

Mummenschanz is a Swiss pantomime troupe of 4 people (2 women, 2 men) that uses props and masks. They have been around since the 1970s and were even featured on the Muppet show! It was a very good show and I can see why they've been around for over 30 years....and the auditorium was full!

Here are some pictures from the show (borrowed from various 'stock' pictures online as I didn't bring my camera).

  2. I saw them years and years ago (we're talking high school) and absolutely loved it. I would really like to see them again one of these days.

  3. Didn't these people star in the Electric Company in the US in the 80's? Haha.
