Not 0.5% of Denmark looks like this. The rest is a mass of undifferentiated suburbia. Across the landscape huge logisitics boxes, office parks and motorways are spreading. Each city is approached by up to 5 km of retail boxes by the side of the road. Much of Jutland is a windwept treeless waste: I´ve cycled across it and so I speak from experience. Perhaps if you come from the US, Canada or Australia and haven´t seen Switzerland, Italy, Germany or France you might be impressed. But if you have and if you come to Denmark to spend more than a few days, you will quickly learn how profoundly boring and dispiriting this place really is. It is a technocracy with suburban values. These pictures do not reflect that.
Seriously "Commentator" get a life. If you must be so crass at least have the cajones to leave a name. If you don't like the post or the blog, move on, as no one is forcing you to look at the beauty that can be found in Denmark. Is your life really that terrible?
I agree. California has views to rival any of these pictures, but it doesn't mean Denmark doesn't have it's beauty too. ...as much as it pains me to say it. :)
Gee Miss Romenesko, have you ever traveled around to see any other places? :) HA!
Of course, I'd say California is the best place in the world hands down. It has every landscape imaginable... even some "windswept treeless waste" too.
Tara- Hmmm, I think I've been around, just a bit...seen a few countries and even taken a few photographs along the way. How dare I post pictures of Denmark that don't depict the 6 million pigs, windswept treeless waste, and grey days?!?!?
I forgot that I actually posted my response to 'commentator.' Another bozo that thinks his response is anonymous. When will they learn?
...to our Life as expats in Denmark blog. Chuck and I moved to Denmark in March 2008 and are planning to live here for about 3 years. Here's a glipse into our life as we figure out living in a foreign country. Our travel blog Roamin' the World has pictures and stories from various trips.
What is an expatriate or expat?
It is simply a person who has taken up residence in a foreign country or a person living away from his or her native country.
Very pretty. :-)
ReplyDeleteoh yeah.........that's what DK is supposed to look like.. I had forgotten!
